A Case of Illegal Fishing

On August 1, 2012, Warden Dave Georgia received an Operation Game Thief complaint of three individuals fishing in a restricted area on the Penobscot River in Veazie. The purpose of the closed area was to protect the endangered Atlantic Salmon that congregated in the pools below the Veazie Dam.

Warden Georgia responded to the area and watched the three poachers for 20 minutes fishing with spin rods in the closed area. Warden Georgia contacted the three individuals and summonsed them for Fishing in Closed Waters. These individuals knew what they were doing as one of them stated, "is it best to catch stripers at low tide?"

Poachers simply don't care about any of our natural resources, including the endangered Atlantic Salmon. Thanks go to the caller who notified Operation Game Thief of the illegal fishing.
